Dresses roundup

This dress is by Max Mara as worn by Christina Applegate who is pregnant. I love dresses! The shape, details and colour are all really flattering. I would wear it – though not with those suede shoes like hers. I would choose grey suede or a simple strappy style in patent or sparkly nude.

And here we have Kim Kardashian in a basically simple strapless mini dress but the contrasting bold geometric pattern really make this dress stand out – in a good way! The pattern cleverly serve to emphasise her volumptous figure. Her hair and make up work well as do her shoes. No, I couldn’t wear this dress but I totally admire anyone who looks this good in it.

Drew Barrymore looks effortlessly glamorous in this gold dress and chunky belt but the platform shoes are too heavy here. She’s been consistently looking good recently. And here’s another great dress with the same belt. Grey is one of my favourite colours and her jersey dress has a lovely draped hem. Who knew she has such great legs? I really like her ‘shaggy’ hair too.

OK, Angelina wore this cocktail dress for the Salt premier in Paris. It’s designed by Pamella Roland. I like it in theory but the execution has a lot to be desired.

Now I’m convinced that these stars are almost always given dresses to wear at red carpet and premier events. The waist is a little too high above her natural waist and makes her look short in the body but it’s not high enough to be a true Empire line. In other photos she appears a little self conscious about the neckline which to me means she’s not confident of the fit. We’re used to seeing these stars in couture gowns and it really shows when what they wear is not up to that standard. This dress is beautifully feminine in shape and goes along with the 50’s Mad Men trend so it will never date.
